What is Birkat Ha'ilanot?
Birkat Ha'ilanot, the blessing of the trees, is said once a year in the spring month of Nisan, on first seeing fruit trees in blossom. It gives thanks for a world to which nothing is lacking.
A blessing for spring's first blossoms
In the spring month of Nisan, when fruit trees first come into flower, there is a blessing said upon seeing them: Birkat Ha'ilanot, the blessing of the trees. It gives thanks to the Holy One, blessed be He, for a world in which nothing is missing, letting the renewal of the orchard become a moment of gratitude.

The blessing appears in the Talmud, Berakhot 43b, and is codified in the Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 226. It is said once a year, the first time you see the blossoming fruit trees.
What to do
During Nisan, the first time you come upon fruit trees in bloom, stop and say the blessing. Because it is said only once a year and only on blossoming fruit trees, ask your rabbi if you are unsure whether the season or the trees before you qualify.
