This policy explains how My Jewish Day collects, uses, and protects the information of people who use the app and this website. It is written in plain language because religious and family information deserves special care.
1Who we are
My Jewish Day is an initiative of Onward SpA, a stock corporation (sociedad por acciones) incorporated in Chile. Onward SpA is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
Contact: shalom@myjewishday.com
2Philosophy: the app is 99% local
The vast majority of your information lives only on your device. Your profile, your yahrzeits, your celebrations, your reflections, your progress markers, and your Shabbat memory are saved locally, not on our servers.
Important implication: if you uninstall the app, wipe device data, reset your phone, or lose the device, you lose that information. We do not have a backup we can restore for you. We recommend writing down or exporting sensitive data (names, Hebrew dates) if they matter to you.
3Information we may store
Locally on your device
- Profile: name, gender, life stage, city, preferred language.
- Dates you add: yahrzeits, birthdays, chuppah, bar and bat mitzvah, other special dates.
- Shabbat reflections, letters, photos, and notes.
- Progress: mitzvot read, parashot studied, streaks, Omer days counted.
- Preferences: active notifications, chosen times, visual theme, Yiddish opt-in, etc.
On servers (only when a feature requires it)
- Launch waiting list: if you leave your email in the "Notify me" form on this site, we store your email address, the site language, the referring page, and your browser identifier (user agent) in Supabase (database provider), for the sole purpose of letting you know when the app is available. The legal basis is your consent. You can unsubscribe or request deletion at any time by emailing shalom@myjewishday.com; we will remove your email from the list. We do not use this data for advertising and do not share it with third parties.
- Approximate location (city level): some features —the Shabbat Wave and the weather blessings— send our servers an approximate, city-level location derived from the city you selected in your profile (not from your GPS). It is uploaded anonymously (a device code, never your name or email) and rounded or grouped by area (roughly 10–40 km), to show how many people are lighting candles near you or to alert you about your city's weather. We never send your exact GPS location: when you use GPS, it is processed only on your device (to compute zmanim or the direction to the Kotel) and never leaves it.
- Collective Yahrzeit: the names and dates you choose to upload to the community wall are stored in Supabase (database provider). Only what you choose to share is uploaded.
- Subscriptions: Apple App Store and Google Play process billing. We use RevenueCat to verify subscription status. We do not see or store your full payment card details.
- AI or translation features: when you use a feature that requires AI processing (for example Daf Yomi with analysis), we send the query to the corresponding provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, or others). We do not send personal identifiers alongside the query.
- Push notifications: Apple and Google handle delivery. We use anonymous device tokens, not your identity.
4How we use the information
- To make the app work: showing your dates, computing zmanim from your location, scheduling notifications.
- To personalize content to your profile (woman, man, young, senior).
- To process your subscription if you become Premium.
- To keep the Collective Yahrzeit alive if you uploaded someone to the wall.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for commercial purposes.
5Cookies and analytics
Website (myjewishday.com): the site is static and uses no tracking or advertising cookies. To understand how many people visit us we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a tool that measures visits without cookies and without collecting personal data or fingerprinting. We also load typefaces from Google Fonts; when serving those fonts, Google may record your browser's IP address under its own privacy policy. We do not use Google Analytics or advertising tracking networks. To protect the waiting-list form from bots we use Cloudflare Turnstile in invisible mode (no visible CAPTCHA or interaction); its use is governed by the Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Addendum. If we add other tools in the future, we will update this policy and, where required, show a consent banner.
Mobile app: the app contains no ads or advertising tracking networks. We use the SDKs required for subscriptions (RevenueCat) and notifications (Apple/Google). We also use, anonymously, two Google Firebase services: Analytics, which records aggregated usage events —for example, which sections are opened— without your name, email, or exact location; and Crashlytics (crash diagnostics), which collects crash reports and technical performance data anonymously —device model, OS version, and the crash log— to fix bugs. They do not include your name, email, or location. In addition, while the app is open it anonymously and temporarily records your live presence —that you are active, which section you are viewing, and whether your subscription is active— to know how many people are using the app in real time; this is identified only by an anonymous device code, never your name, email, or date of birth, and stops being recorded when you close the app or send it to the background.
6Your rights (GDPR — residents of the European Union)
If you reside in the European Economic Area, the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 grants you these rights over your personal data:
- Access: know what data we hold about you.
- Rectification: request that inaccurate data be corrected.
- Erasure ("right to be forgotten"): request deletion of your data.
- Restriction: request that we stop processing your data in certain cases.
- Portability: receive your data in a structured format to take it to another service.
- Objection: object to processing on legitimate grounds.
- Complaint: file a complaint with your national data protection authority.
Because most of your data is only on your device, you control most of these rights directly from the app (deleting data, exporting, editing). For data stored on our servers (Collective Yahrzeit, subscription), email us at shalom@myjewishday.com with subject "GDPR" and we will respond within 30 days.
7Your rights (CCPA — California residents)
If you reside in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA, as amended by CPRA) grants you these rights:
- To know what personal information we collect, use, and share.
- To request deletion of your personal information.
- To request correction of inaccurate information.
- To opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do neither).
- To not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
To exercise your CCPA rights, email us at shalom@myjewishday.com with subject "CCPA".
8Minimum age (COPPA and equivalent rules)
My Jewish Day is intended for users 13 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, in compliance with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent rules in other jurisdictions.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has provided us information, email shalom@myjewishday.com with the subject "Minor," stating the associated name or email. We verify the request and delete all data tied to that account within 30 days, confirming by email. In the meantime, since the app stores data locally, you can also immediately erase everything from Settings → Delete my data on the minor's own device.
9Chilean law (Law 19,628)
My Jewish Day is also subject to Chile's Law 19,628 on the Protection of Private Life. You can exercise your ARCO rights (Access, Rectification, Cancellation, Objection) by writing to our contact email.
10Security
We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data: encryption in transit (HTTPS), restricted permissions on third-party services, and minimization of data sent to the cloud. No system is 100% secure; we will notify you of any breach affecting your personal data within the timelines required by law.
11International transfers
Some providers (Supabase, RevenueCat, Apple, Google, AI providers) operate servers outside Chile and the European Union, mainly in the United States. These providers rely on recognized data protection frameworks (standard contractual clauses, equivalent certifications). By using the app, you accept this international processing.
12Retention
We retain your data while you have the app installed or an active subscription. Data you upload to the Collective Yahrzeit is kept while you choose to keep it visible; you can request deletion at any time. Billing records may be retained as required by applicable accounting and tax rules (up to 6 years in Chile).
13Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the current version. We will notify you in-app or by email when changes are significant.
