Kolí Privacy Policy
Kolí has no accounts, and reading happens entirely on your phone. Community reading is optional, uses a server, and sends only three pieces of data that do not identify you. What you write never leaves your device.
1No accounts: your identity is a random number
Kolí has no accounts: you cannot create one, not with an email or anything else. For the community feature, the app generates a random identifier on your phone and stores it encrypted. It is not linked to your name, an email or a phone number. We do not know who you are.
2Reading is 100% local and offline
Reading, searching and receiving a recommendation happen entirely inside your phone. All 150 chapters travel inside the app: they read offline, and no permission is ever requested.
3What you write stays on your phone
The names or initials you read for, your intentions and your journal notes are stored only on your device. They never leave it, not even when you use community reading. They are not synced or backed up to any cloud.
4Community reading: optional, and it switches off
Kolí can show you that other people are reading the same chapter. This feature is optional and you control it under Settings → “Community reading alerts”. With it off, the app stops talking to the server entirely. You can also join a group with an 8-character code someone shares with you; there is no public list of codes.
5What travels to the server when you turn it on
Only three things: the random identifier, the chapter number you are reading, and the time of the last heartbeat (so we know you are still there). Nothing else. Not your notes, not your intentions, not the names you pray for, not your location.
6No free text: there is nothing to moderate
In the community feature nobody can write a name, a dedication or a note that another person sees. A reading room is described only by a chapter number. That is why there is no third-party content to moderate, and none that could offend you.
7Live presence: a number, never an identity
The app may show how many people are reading at a given moment. It is only a number. Never an identity, a name or a location — neither yours nor anyone else's.
8No advertising, no tracking — one diagnostic exception
Kolí contains no advertising, no behavioral analytics, and does not sell or share your information with anyone, for any purpose. There is one exception, and we name it plainly: crash diagnostics. When the app closes unexpectedly, it sends an automatic crash report to Firebase Crashlytics, a Google service, so we can find out it broke on someone's phone and fix it — until now, we never even knew. A report carries the technical trace of the error, your device model, its operating-system version, the app version, the screen orientation, and how much memory and storage were free at that moment, along with a random installation identifier that Firebase generates (it identifies the installation, not you or your phone permanently). It never carries your name, it is not linked to any identity because Kolí has no accounts, and it never touches your private content: your intentions stay encrypted on your device and never leave it. Google processes this data under its privacy policy.
9Permissions Kolí does not request
The app does not request location, contacts, camera or microphone.
10External providers: three
- Supabase — powers community reading. It receives the random identifier, the chapter number and the heartbeat time.
- RevenueCat — only if you choose to buy Plus. It receives an anonymous purchase identifier. Billing is handled by Apple or Google; Kolí never sees your card details.
- Google (Firebase Crashlytics) — receives anonymous crash reports when the app closes unexpectedly (see section 8). Never your name, your location, or anything you write.
None of them receives personal data, because the app holds none to give.
11When you share a chapter
Sharing opens your system's share sheet and you choose where it goes. The shared text carries the chapter and nothing personal: never your intention, never your notes.
12How to delete your data
Under Settings → Delete my data you erase everything the app stored on the phone, you also erase what was on the server, and your random identifier is rotated, leaving the previous one unused.
13Shabbat
When Shabbat begins, Kolí asks you whether to turn off community reading alerts. It does not decide for you.
14Children
Kolí does not ask for or store data that could identify a person, of any age: no name, no email, no phone number, no location. The only thing that travels, and only if you turn on community reading, is a random identifier that is not associated with any person.
15Changes to this policy
If Kolí ever adds another provider or feature that processes data, we will update this page before that change reaches the app.
